Aluminosilicates Catalysts Synthesis from Low-Grade Indonesian Kaolin for the Acetalization Reaction

Aluminosilicate and ZSM-5 catalyst were synthesized from local materials, low-grade Indonesian kaolin. High quartz impurities content in the kaolin was successfully reduced by consecutive treatment process including washing, centrifugation, Fe3+ treatment. All showed mesoporous structure with pore diameter around 3.5 nm. The catalytic activity investigated acetalization of 3,4-dimethoxybenzaldehyde propylene glycol, then effect a different base (TPAOH NaOH) addition to discussed. aluminosilicate outperforms ZSM-5. Interestingly, it is found that can be enhanced aluminosilicate, conversion 32.2% 81.6%, whereas slightly increased value 0% 3.65%. catalysts high selectivity 100% reaction product 2-(3,4-dimethoxy-phenyl)-4-methyl-1,3-dioxolane.
